Safeguard Veterans is a one-year research pilot program funded by the VA Office of Suicide Prevention to test whether bundling evidence-based interventions across clinical and community settings can reduce barriers to access, improve Veteran care coordination, and expand local capacity.

Taking place within six communities across the Nation, this program combines proven suicide prevention strategies to strengthen local systems to help Veterans—especially those not currently using VHA or other VA services.

At its heart, Safeguard Veterans is about preventing and reducing Veteran deaths by suicide. Many Veterans seek help outside traditional clinical settings and face fragmented systems. Safeguard aims to reduce gaps between services, improve handoffs, and expand community capacity so Veterans can access timely, appropriate support from VA or non-VA supportive services.
